My Trek to Rainbow Mountain

When I decided to venture to Rainbow Mountain in Peru, I was very excited, having only heard tales of its breathtaking view. The journey promised beauty, but the its challenges are well-known. The trek, although just about an hour and a half, is tough, mainly due to the combination of high altitude and a steep climb towards the culmination.

The moment I set foot on the path, the altitude’s impact was evident. Each stride felt like a tiny battle, with the thin air making my lungs work overtime. But nature, with its myriad colors, offered the perfect distraction. As I trekked onward, the mountains seemed to come alive, showing off their vibrant hues of reds, blues, yellows, and purples.

A delightful surprise along the way was meeting locals and their alpacas. Their vibrant outfits stood out against the backdrop of the mountain, a stark contrast to the natural palette.

But the journey wasn’t just about the trek. The entire day was meticulously planned, right from the early morning when I was picked up at my hotel at 4 am. The meals ensured I had the necessary fuel, with a breakfast to kickstart the day and a rewarding buffet lunch once the trek concluded. Moreover, the entrance fee for the trek was taken care of, making the experience smooth. And the thoughtful addition of walking sticks provided the much-needed support during those challenging inclines.

The climax of this journey was, without doubt, reaching the peak. The view from atop Rainbow Mountain was nothing short of mesmerizing. Bathed in sunlight, the mountain showcased its colors even more vividly, a sight that pictures can hardly capture.

After descending and reflecting on the day, it was clear that Rainbow Mountain was not just about the destination. It was about the effort it took to reach that beautiful view, goal.
