At 8:00 am, we enjoy an outdoor breakfast surrounded by nature.

This colca canyon 1 day hike is ideal if you are short on time but still want to experience the dramatic landscapes of the Colca Valley. You travel comfortably from Arequipa, hike along the canyon’s edge, and return the same day.

Unlike a mass tourism colca canyon day tour, this experience follows quieter trails and includes a small hiking group of 2 to 10 participants. It is a balanced mix of nature, culture, and light adventure.

  • Volcanoes viewpoint at nearly 5,000 meters
  • Hot springs in Yanque

Colca Canyon Trek 1 day vs 2-day Colca Canyon Trek

Many travelers ask whether they should choose the colca canyon trek 1 day or the classic 2-day Colca Canyon trek. The answer depends on your time, fitness level, and how deep you want to explore the canyon.

Colca Canyon Trek 1 day

  • Short and scenic colca canyon 1 day hike
  • Approximately 2 hours of hiking
  • 6 km walk along the canyon’s edge
  • Visit Condor Cross and Qhapaq Ñan trail
  • Includes volcano viewpoints and hot springs
  • Return to Arequipa the same day

This option is ideal if you have limited time in Arequipa or prefer a moderate walking experience. You still enjoy the best viewpoints and condor spotting without descending deep into the canyon.

Colca Canyon Trek 2 days

  • Longer and more physically demanding
  • Descent into the canyon and overnight stay with swimming pool
  • Hiking down to oasis areas like Sangalle
  • Early morning uphill climb on day 2
  • More immersion in canyon landscapes

The 2-day trek is better if you want a stronger hiking challenge and a deeper canyon experience. It involves steep descents and ascents and requires good physical condition.

Which one should you choose?

More about the Colca Canyon Trek 1 day

The colca canyon trek 1 day takes place in one of the deepest canyons in the world. Colca Canyon reaches depths of over 3,000 meters, making it even deeper than the Grand Canyon in some sections.

The hike follows part of the Qhapaq Ñan, the ancient Inca road system that once connected the entire Inca Empire. Walking this historic path allows you to experience both natural beauty and pre-Inca history.

Condor Cross is one of the most famous viewpoints in Peru. The Andean condor has a wingspan of up to 3 meters and uses thermal air currents to glide effortlessly above the canyon. Early morning is the best time to see them.

During this colca canyon one day tour, you also visit high-altitude viewpoints near 4,910 meters by vehicle. From here, you see multiple volcanoes surrounding the Colca Valley.
