Day 1: Huaraz to Mitucocha
Distance: ~9.1 km | Elevation gain: ~685 m
- Morning: Leave Huaraz (3100 m), drive to Chiquián, then to Llamac, and finally to Cuartelhuain (4180 m).
- Afternoon: Begin hiking from Cuartelhuain, ascend Punta Cacanan Pass (4690 m), and descend to Mitucocha Lake (4150 m).
- Evening: Set up camp at Mitucocha Lake.
Day 2: Mitucocha to Carhuacocha
Distance: ~9.1 km | Elevation gain: ~715 m
- Morning: Ascend to Alcaycocha Pass (~4700 m), enjoy views of Mitucocha and Siula Lagoons.
- Afternoon: Hike down to Carhuacocha Lake (4150 m).
- Evening: Camp at Carhuacocha Lake.
Day 3: Carhuacocha to Huayhuash
Distance: ~14.8 km | Elevation gain: ~820 m
- Morning: Walk along the lake, reach the viewpoint of the three lagoons.
- Afternoon: Ascend to Siula Pass (4830 m), then descend to Huayhuash camp (~4300 m).
- Evening: Camp at Huayhuash.
Day 4: Huayhuash to Elephant Camp
Distance: ~8.4 km | Elevation gain: ~700 m
- Morning: Hike up to Trapecio Pass (5000 m), with views of Trapecio, Pumarinri, and Cuyoc mountains.
- Afternoon: Descend to Elephant Camp (~4300 m).
- Evening: Camp at Elephant Camp.
Day 5: Elephant Camp to Huayllapa
Distance: ~11.9 km | Elevation gain: ~1100 m
- Morning: Climb to San Antonio Pass (5100 m), with views of Jurao, Sarapo, and Siula Grande.
- Afternoon: Descend to Cutatambo Valley and continue to Huayllapa (3500 m).
- Evening: Camp at Huayllapa, the next morning you can choose to travel back to Lima or Huaraz.

Preparing for the Huayhuash Trek 5 Days
Altitude preparation
This trek goes above 4,700 meters. Stay in Huaraz at least 2–3 days before the trek to adjust. Hike to places like Laguna 69 or Lake Rocotuyoc to help acclimatize.
Fitness training
The Huayhuash trek 5 days is tough. Hike, run, cycle, or train at the gym before your trip. Try carrying a daypack on long walks to get used to it.
