I always wanted to see Machu Picchu. It’s an old city high up in the mountains, and it’s not just any city. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which means it’s really important and special. So, when I got the chance to visit, I was beyond excited.
I started my trip in a city called Cusco. From there, I got on the IncaRail train. This train was going to take me to Aguas Calientes, a town close to Machu Picchu. On the train, I saw many big mountains and green trees. It looked very nice. The train also went through some tunnels in the mountains. It was different and fun to see the darkness and then the light again.
When I reached Aguas Calientes, I took a bus. The bus went up a winding road to Machu Picchu. When I saw Machu Picchu for the first time, it was amazing. There were old buildings, stairs, and places where people grew food.
I had a guide with me. He told me many things about Machu Picchu. He showed me where people got water, where they grew food, and where they lived. I learned a lot from him.
When I stepped into Machu Picchu, it felt like I was walking into a story from a long time ago. The old city, high in the mountains, the Inca people and their way of life. Right in front of me were the incredible stone buildings. It was amazing to think that the Incas built them without using any cement or glue. The stones fit so perfectly that not even a thin piece of paper could slide between them.

As I wandered further, I came across the terraces. These flat areas on the mountainside looked like steps of a giant staircase. I learned that the Incas had cleverly made these terraces to grow their food, turning the steep mountain into a farm.
Walking through the city, I found the Sun Temple, a special building with a big stone inside. This stone, I was told, lined up with the sun during certain times, helping the Incas understand the seasons. Nearby, the Room of the Three Windows caught my eye. Its grand windows looked out over the valley, and they represented the Inca belief in three worlds: the sky, the earth, and the underworld.
And then there were the stairs, so many of them, crisscrossing the city. Some were steep, making me watch my step as I climbed. As I took a moment to catch my breath, a few llamas passed by, calmly munching on the grass. They live at the ancient ruins.
After looking around, I was hungry. I went to eat at a place called RESTAURANTE CASA TOTOS. The food was good. This restaurant was included in the trip. Lots of different food to choose from and an amazing view.
Then, it was time to go back to Cusco. I got on the train and started thinking about the day. I remembered the big size of Machu Picchu and the old stories I heard about it. I looked out the window and saw the mountains and trees going by. I felt really thankful for this day.
When I got to my hotel in Cusco, my feet hurt, and I was very tired. But I was also very happy. I didn’t just see a famous place; I saw Machu Picchu and learned many new things. It was a good day.
