From Soraypampa, you hike to the beautiful Humantay Lake. The lake is famous for its turquoise color and views of the Humantay glacier. After enjoying the views, you hike back down and continue walking about 1.5 hours to the first campsite near Apu Salkantay.
At camp, you enjoy lunch and some time to rest. In the afternoon, you can explore the area and admire the impressive Salkantay Mountain from different viewpoints. Later, there is tea time and dinner. You spend the night in simple Andean cabins.

The trail climbs slowly toward the highest point of the trek, Salkantay Pass at 4,650 meters. From the top, you have impressive views of the surrounding glaciers and mountains. Sometimes the guide performs a small coca leaf ceremony to thank the mountain spirits.
After the pass, you hike downhill for about two hours to Huayracmachay, where lunch is served. The landscape slowly changes from high mountains to greener valleys.
After lunch, you continue hiking for about three more hours to the campsite in Chaullay. Tonight, you sleep in simple domes. In the evening, there is tea time and dinner. Sometimes the group gathers around a small campfire to share stories about Andean culture and local traditions.
Day 3: Chaullay – Granadilla – Coca Camp – Cocalmayo Hot Springs
The third day of the cheap Salkantay trek takes you deeper into the cloud forest. Around 05:30 am, the cook wakes you with coca tea. After breakfast, you start hiking around 06:30 am.
The trail goes downhill through green valleys filled with fruit trees, coffee plants, cacao, and coca plantations. This part of the trek is warmer and more tropical than the previous days.
After about five hours of hiking, you arrive at Coca Camp, where lunch is waiting for you. After lunch, you can relax for a short time.
Later, you visit a local coffee project where you learn about coffee production in the region. In the afternoon, the group visits the Cocalmayo hot springs, a popular place for travelers to relax after several days of hiking.
After the hot springs, you return to the camp for dinner and overnight in domes or capsules.
