Inca Jungle Trek 3 days to Machu Picchu itinerary

Day 1: Biking and rafting adventure

Morning:

  • Pick-up from your hotel in Cusco between 6:00 am and 6:30 am.
  • Drive through the Sacred Valley, with a short stop in Ollantaytambo for snacks and rest.
  • Continue to Abra Malaga Pass (4,350 m) and begin a 60 km downhill bike ride with great views.

Afternoon:

  • Lunch near the Huamanmarca Inca site.
  • After lunch, enjoy a 1.5-hour river rafting activity on the Santa María River.*
  • After rafting, the 3-day group continues by car to Santa Teresa to catch up with the 4-day group from the day before.
  • Optionally visit the nearby hot springs.

Evening:

  • Check into your stay and relax.
  • Dinner and overnight stay in Santa Teresa.

*During the rainy season, the river can become too dangerous due to strong currents. In such cases, local authorities may close the river and rafting will not be possible. If most of the group agrees, we may organize a visit to nearby waterfalls instead. Please note that this may involve additional costs, as different transport arrangements may be required.

Day 2: Group switch, ziplining or early departure

Morning:

  • Breakfast at 6:30 am.
  • If you have a Machu Picchu ticket, or you don’t mind arriving later in Aguas Calientes: enjoy the exciting zipline adventure.
  • If you do not have a ticket: you can skip the zipline and leave early (around 3:00 am) to reach Aguas Calientes early and try to buy a last-minute Machu Picchu ticket.
  • After ziplining, you’ll drive to Hidroelectrica for lunch.

Afternoon:

  • From Hidroelectrica, hike the scenic jungle route (about 3 hours) to Aguas Calientes.

Evening:

  • Check into your hotel in Aguas Calientes.
  • Dinner at a local restaurant and rest before your Machu Picchu visit.

Note: The schedule for day 3 depends on the availability of Machu Picchu tickets and the return option you choose (train or bus via Hydroelectric). The itinerary below shows the standard plan for this day. Your exact schedule may vary depending on ticket availability and transportation choice.

Day 3: Machu Picchu – Cusco

Morning

  • Wake up early and visit Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas.
  • Enjoy a visiting the highlight of this salkantay trek: Machu Picchu. If you have circuit 2 time slot 6:00 AM, join our guided Machu Picchu tour.
  • Optional climb to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (pre-booking required).

Afternoon

  • Return to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included).
  • Board the train to Ollantaytambo (if booked).
  • From Ollantaytambo, shared transport by bus or minivan will take you back to Cusco.

Evening

  • Arrive in Cusco historic center, the end of your journey.
