The Laguna 513 itinerary

Morning

  • Depart from Huaraz at 4:00 am.
  • Drive to Carhuaz, then head east towards the Cordillera Blanca.
  • Pass through the town of Hualcán, observing local agricultural crops and domestic animals, with views of Huascarán mountain.

Afternoon

  • Start hiking from the entrance of the Shonquil valley along an almost flat path.
  • Follow a zigzagging, ascending path parallel to the Chucchún river to reach the Rajupaquinán lagoon.
  • Continue climbing to reach Laguna 513, located at the foot of the Hualcán mountain (6,350 m).
  • Enjoy the views and the lagoon’s intense blue color.
  • If time permits, visit a third lagoon called Cochca, located below Hualcán mountain on the right side.
  • Take a break, eat, and take pictures.

Evening

  • Return along the same path to the transport.
  • Drive back to Huaraz, arriving around 5:30 pm.
