Background information about Moray and Maras
Moray: An Incan agricultural laboratory Moray is a remarkable archaeological site featuring a series of deep, concentric terraces that descend into the earth like an amphitheater. Historians believe that the Incas used these terraces as a type of laboratory to determine the optimal conditions for growing crops at different elevations.
Salineras: Ancient salt pans The Salineras, or Maras salt mines, have been in use since pre-Incan times. Thousands of shallow pools filled with salt water eventually evaporate, leaving behind crystallized salt that is harvested by local families. The geometric beauty of these white and pink salt pools against the green mountain backdrop makes Salineras not only an important economic resource but also a captivating sight for visitors.
