Day 1: Cusco – Km 104 – Wiñay Wayna – Aguas Calientes

Morning

  • Pickup in Cusco: Start your day early, with a hotel pickup around 3:30 AM. Drive to the Ollantaytambo train station (1.5 hours).
  • Train ride to Km 104: Board the train at Ollantaytambo for a scenic ride along the Urubamba River to the trailhead at Km 104. Here, meet your guide and check in at the Inca Trail control point.
  • Visit Chachabamba Ruins: Begin your hike with a visit to the beautiful Chachabamba ruins, located in the jungle. Your guide will explain their significance.

Afternoon

  • Hike to Wiñay Wayna: Start your 3-hour uphill hike to Wiñay Wayna (“Forever Young”), a stunning archaeological site with agricultural terraces and religious structures. Take time to explore and learn about its history.
  • Packed lunch: Enjoy a lunch provided by your guide while taking in the views.

Evening

  • Sun Gate & Machu Picchu: Hike 2 more hours to the Sun Gate (Intipunku) for your first glimpse of Machu Picchu. This viewpoint offers breathtaking panoramas with fewer crowds in the late afternoon. Descend 40 minutes to the main site for photos.
  • Aguas Calientes: Take the shuttle bus to Aguas Calientes, where you’ll enjoy dinner at a local restaurant and check into your 3-star hotel for a restful night.

Day 2: Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes – Cusco

Morning
